Superior Trail 50 Mile Preparations

This coming weekend is the Superior Trail Races in Northern MN. There are 3 races all held on the Superior Hiking Trail: marathon, 50 mile, and 100 mile. I'll be attempting my first 50 mile on Sat. ALL DAY Sat. Yikes.

So of course I've been getting ready... I have piles of stuff around: stuff I'll wear and carry, stuff going into drop bags.

I'm scared to pack everything I think I'm carrying with me into my bottle carrier and vest... I suspect it's going to feel like I'm backpacking!

I'm not superstitious or anything, but I'm wearing 3 of my Superior race shirts to work this week (not all at once, one at a time... at least I only wore one today. Hmmm, maybe add one each day... be wearing all 3 by Thur??). And when I get home I put on my FANS 12-hour shirt and my Pikes Peak Ascent jacket and wear those all evening.

Please tell me I'm not the only one that does stuff like this!?!? :)

For everyone heading up there... whether you're running or crewing or volunteering I hope you do GREAT!

You will be fine. Those look like reasonable sized piles of items for now, unless of course they are all of the things you will be carrying!

Having never done an ultra I do not feel qualified to comment on pre-race rituals. I say, if it makes you feel better (and isn't hurting anyone) go for it.

Over prep is always good. Just do not let anxious feeling make you go out to fast. Nice and easy... The point to point 50 course in my mind makes the first 20 the worse part of the whole thing so if you feel tires, it only gets better...

ha ha - just don't start wearing your headlamp to work or people might start to wonder! the pre-race excitement is half the fun. it'll be a great time.

You got me hooked on wearing prior year race shirts prior to the race they pertain to, so if you're crazy you've passed it on :)

50 miles, I wish you all the best this weekend!

Gadzooks! One word of advice is to not drink a cup of coffee at mile 45 because the crash comes before the finish...

I also heard if you consume to many salt tabs you will turn into the marshmellow man.

Wayne great to see you are going after it. And yes I am 100% jealous.

I am tempted to motor up there to cheer you on and eat cream filled donuts while cheering you on.

Here is my phone #612-237-3312 it would be nice to chat.

I will be pulling out my superior trail maps to comb over the route. I'm sure to bring back old memories.

Keep on Keeping On-
Dan Hebert

Your right Wildknits! He does have twinkies! I guess they help preserve the body until someone finds him. :-)

You will do great Wayne! You have had an awesome running season this year!
